The evolution of society has led to major breakthroughs in the field of science and technology. The people of the Indus centuries ago invented the wheel, after which the inherent curiosity of man has led to several ingenious invention.what was once considered fanciful has today become a reality. The entrepreneur Richard Branson in an interview only recently spoke about the possibility of a flight that could make the commute between New York and Tokyo a one hour journey when it currently takes thirteen hours. we are part of an age where nothing seems impossible. The advancement in medical science has increased the life expectancy considerebly. The field of ergonomics has been recently developed to give importance to the human factor in engineering.
The advancement in the science and technology has given people more leisure time. Today we have various kitchen equipments that do our work within minutes. The computer has led to serious revolutions in the field of communication, networking and business. The mobile phone and the number features it offers today has made life 'on the go' possible. In the field of military and defense, the Media industry, infrastructure industries have all reaped the benefits of this advancement. During post independence period and through the Vision of pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the then prime minister, science and technology were developed in a conscious way as a major force for accelerating social and economic change. India is still lagging behind in the field of energy; specifically harnessing clean, safe and non-polluting energy. Solar energy, the limitless source ( the sun) provided by the nature, is still underutilized. Through much is achieved, but more is left unattended.
But today due to the growing awareness and technology already already available there is more scope for progress in the future. There is also a lot of inter nation sharing of information so that the same mistakes are not repeated. Many international organizations to further the cause of science have come into being today. The field is flourishing and the everything seems possible in the future today due to the success it has achieved in transforming lives so far. Hence, well as private institutions today there are about 3000 public and private institutions engaged in basic/fundamental, applied researches and development works in various fields of science and technology.
